Caring for the Wounded

This brave Ukrainian soldier suffered a gunshot wound during battle. The bullet went through his leg, fracturing his tibia.

Dr. Valerii Gontarenko and these Ukrainian surgeons showed me the external fixation devices used to ensure the bones remain in an optimal position during the healing process. Due to the excellent work of these orthopedic surgeons, this soldier will not become an invalid and will be able to walk again.

Thanks to Dr. Tom Knox, Dr. Steve Orten, Mark Kemp, Dr. Craig Hobar, and the Stryker company who donated premium orthopedic instruments, many wounded Ukrainians will have a higher quality of life after surgery. Thanks Dr. Peter Martynov, Bogdan Azm Esm, and Mykola Rubchak who helped ensure these instruments reached to their destination.
