Advocating for Ukraine: A Successful UkraineActionSummit in Washington, D.C.

I could not have described the last few days in Washington DC, any better than Yulia OC from Dignitas Ukraine, who wrote this below (paraphrased slightly):

Three days, 60,000 steps, and a single mission: Aid for Ukraine! Alongside 500 individuals from various parts of the United States, I pounded the Congressional halls – the House and Senate offices, urging for crucial aid for Ukraine and advocating for the Ukraine Supplemental Aid Bill to be brought to a vote.

Changes were underway as we sat in these offices, persuading Congressmen and Senators to pass several critical resolutions:

  1. Pass S.Res.2003, the REPO Act – to transfer Russian state assets to Ukraine for reconstruction, a move supported by both the Administration and Republican leadership, setting a positive example for Europe to follow suit.
  2. Pass S.Res.172, the Ukraine Victory Resolution – affirming that the United States aims to help Ukraine win the war, not just to support for “as long as it takes.”
  3. Pass S.Res.158, condemning the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia. Currently, the officially recognized 19,000+ Ukrainian children (unofficial number is around 200,000), are subject to indoctrination, an act considered genocide by the UN Genocide Convention.

After the Capitol Hill meetings, evenings are spent connecting with remarkable Ukrainians and Americans who had come from across the nation to advocate in Washington. We stand together as a united front, determined to support Ukraine until victory is achieved.

Special thanks to the American Coalition for Ukraine for organizing the Advocacy Summit Spring 2024, officially known as the #ukraineactionsummit.

As the summit concluded, we were honored to see Forbes recognize our efforts, further highlighting the impact of this advocacy work. Representing Texas in this vital mission was a privilege, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to pushing forward crucial legislation for Ukraine.
